Wonky Wobbly drivers seat

Post

(still, after I replaced the clips and cleaned/greased up the rails)??

So yesterday I took out both front seats to do a thorough detail inside the car.

After hours of scrubbing, vacuuming, scraping and washing out 25 years of grime, dirt, boogers, coins, pens, stickers, tissues, screws and flies from the carpet and seats I decided I would tackle the wobbly seat syndrome and fitted with new white plastic clips, rubber fittings for the front and proper grease I thought I would be home and safe.

But when I drove home I noticed that there's still play in the seats (driver). Although it's much better than before, the seat still wobbles slightly.. 2-3 mm I think (or so it feels), while before it felt like 0.5-1.0 cm..

Is this normal or should it be zero play? I fitted the new clips exactly the same way the old ones were fitted..

Any pointers are more than welcome as I'm going in again tonight to tackle other issues..

Yep, perfectly normal to have a bit of play. The design won't really allow for the finest of tolerances.

You'll find play where the plastic guides fit in the runners. On the base legs as it's a sealed joint which develops play over the years. Where the backrest meets the base too.

Don't get me wrong, they should feel pretty solid and shouldn't move unless you rock though.

Cheers mate, thanks for the quick reply. Ok, I guess it's normal then. It feels solid as such but yesterday during some inspired driving I felt the base wobble slightly (tricky stretch of road where I always check a car's behaviour, the car changes direction mid-turn and elevation of the road varies at lot.. )

I'll leave it be and rest knowing it's normal hehe..

I guess the easy answer is sit in/drive someone else's car to feel what there seat is like.
