What should it look like

Hi
Just getting the 86 GTI cab back on the road for the spring - but not had it long and it is my first - so have a question……

The front grille has 4 head lights - but there seems to be no trims around the grille. - I know many cars have red trims (classic GTI) but the VWheritage listing say the trims were only fitted to tin tops?

Would the car have originally had any trims? Red, Chrome, other? what defines which was fitted to which car……….

Any help is much appreciated.

I haven't got any brochures for that model year to refer to, but I am sure all Cabbys came with grille trim, until the facelift when the Clipper bodykits became standard.

I think most I have seen had redtrim rather than chrome though, but I am sure there are plenty out there with chrome as well as it does look more subtle  on body colour.  The earlier injection cabbys badged GLI all had silver trim.

thanks richardhall.  Thought it would be red. Just need to try and find some and not pay £100 for some red plastic!!

If the trim is genuine, then it's made of aluminium, if you get some secondhand chrome  cheaper, then just need to spray it Mars Red.
