Mine werent as bad but I used aluminium roofing tape on the inside (as it sticks really well and moulds to the shape required easily) - rather than using in one big strip use several smaller ones as its (the tape) a pain when it rolls back on itself!

Good call, I was thinking Gaffa tape.
Then a flexible filler and paint, guessing silicone would be perfect but the paint won't stick!

Peter, Gaffer tape is fantastic but it's a short time solution in your case.

To be honest with you it looks like there's very little holding it together now and in my opinion it just won't last.

My advice is to bite the bullet and invest in a replacement for what it's worth! 😉 👍🏼

You can repair it, and strengthen the bond better than tape.

Parts needed.

JB-Weld Kwick.
JB-Weld Full
Foil Tape (duct).
Masking tape
Latex Gloves

Clean the cracked area with alcohol, get it cleaned.
Clean the Backside get it clean.  Then with a wire brush Gently scuff the rear side. Giving the glue more binding surface

To the rear side you are going to use METAL Window Screen Mesh.

Cut the mesh to the length of the breaks and about 1 inch overlap of the area.

The metal mesh can be form fitted to the break from the inside.

Reform the plastic to the correct shape. and hold with foil duct tape, or which ever you choose, but get the shape right.

Mix up, JB-WELD quick to the proper amount for coverage to hold the corners of the mesh to the plastic you need but a few drops on the mesh to hold it to the plastic in the corners and the middle… let it set.

Now after the JB-Weld Kwick hardens your shape should be set..and the screen mesh held in place….

Cover any void areas on the front and over the crack with Masking tape, get it to stick to stop the repair Epoxy to bleed through.

Mix up 50-50 amount of JB-WELD full strength to cover the entire Mesh and to the plastic.

Slather and smooth the JB-Weld Full over the Mesh and about 1/4 " over the repaired mesh and force it on to the plastic underneath.  Allow a good 24-48 hours to full Cure….

You can smooth the JB-Weld with a Latex Glove over your fingers, and a little Spittle… it will Smooth flat.

24 hour later you can strip off the masking tape Tape that sticks to the glue overages can be brushed off with warm soapy water….

If yours is black you can spray it with Krylon Fusion Satin Black and the repair will look brandy new, and if you are worried about a grain repair, you can buy Grained paper from a card shop to overlay the front to keep the Grained appearance, just tape it in place tight to the repaired area make sure of no puckers or folds.

The wire screen mesh is usually avail in large rolls in Aluminum or Steel, either work, and some hardware stores carry smaller screen mesh repair Kits that are about 6X6".

JB-Weld Kwick has about 60-70 percent Strength of JB-Weld Full, and that is why you use the Quick to Bind the repair screen to the part 1. to reinforce the repaired area, and two to hold it in place so the JB-Weld Full
can cure unassisted.  I usually place the applicator stick in the residual JB mix.

To achieve a good 50-50 mix, I  use a Digital Scale (14 bucks or less.

Place a plastic jar lid over the scale and 0 it.
Squeeze some part A on to the lid, see the scale reading?  Squeeze part B on to the Scale to Double the amount… great trick….

I have used this trick to repair Broken Heater Vent covers, and when the glue is almost hardened and still tacky, I can use my finger nail to raise a bead and things.

I have also used it to strengthen the rear side of the Vent edges to keep them from breaking, and to repair broken or cracked rear wheel arches on my cabby's Klipper, or to fill scuffs prior to paint…. Better than Bondo… Water Proof.

Cheers Brian, I've used JB before on my motorcycle engine casing whilst en route from Bueno Aires to NYC!

I was thinking of having the wrapped with a textured film once repared?
