Rusted studs in rear arch - what are they for?

Hi there,
Picking up where i left off on a restoration of a mk1 rivage, about 9 years ago!
I was cleaning out the arches to check for rust (none found, which is great!), but i have come across what looks to be a stud? this is rusty (same on both sides).
Does anyone know what it is supposed to be for? (top left on inner arch pic)

Rusted studs in rear arch - what are they for?
I will dig put the old liners and have a look. It looks like the other liner holes were just drilled holes into the body. I shall have a closer look.

That's interesting. Just out of interest, are screws into a plastic plug? Does that come through into the boot?

up top it should be a stud with a nut, at the bottom its a self-tapper. looks like stud snapped, and PO used a self-tapper instead.
If you can weld its an easy enough fix, tbh you could probably bond a stud in from behind even. Or at least for a slightly neater look inside the boot put a self taping screw in from the back, and put a nut on the outside. Worst case just need a helper to hold the self-tapper inside the boot while you do up the nut
