Rear hatch leak - where's is it coming from?

Post

As a result of recent heavy rain, I have discovered a water leak on my car.
i have water running down the inside of the rear panel, just below the boot latch, which then soaks into the carpet and into the wheel well.
There seems to be a drain hole on the inside near the latch, which is inline of where the water runs down

I can't understand how water gets passed the boot seal to get to this drain hole ?

i noticed another drain hole in the boot hatch itself, which lines up with the drain hole above

but I can't see how water could get inside the hatch, anyone had this? Or got any ideas?

The rear wiper and spray holes seems OK

so do the badge holes and seal etc

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Could try putting some talc or flour dusted around the boot on the inside of all the seals and then hose the car to see if you can see any runs where it's coming through.  The first drain hole you mentioned is normal.

I had a similar problem but changed my rear light seals and that seems to have resolved it - for now!

It's not coming through the lights, I can see water running below the catch

I just can't work out how it gets there.

I get the Mrs to point a hose out it, but couldn't see a leak !!!!

I also replaced the boot seal just in case

Could it be the rear glass seal?. Is this easy to swap?

Mine was caused by the wiring grommets between the roof and the boot lid (open the boot and look along the hinge line, check the 2 grommets for fit and damage). Both of mine had failed and was letting water into the hatch The water was running down through the inside of the hatch to the drain hole by the latch and into the lock plate on the rear panel. This was then draining into the boot.  Hard to get the parts but easy to replace… Hope you get it sorted

I replaced the rear water jet, the boot lock seal and reinstalled the push in badges with silicone grease in the holes. I also found that a lot of the water was getting in through the rear light seals so I re-seated these (again using silicone grease).
This reduced about 95% of water ingress. I never worked out how the water got between the inner and outer skin of the rear hatch. It's in a garage over winter anyway lol
