Interest in re manufacturing trim cloth
Having had my interior eaten by a mouse ( dont ask long story)
Ive been wondering about the feasibility of getting the stripe cloth re manufactured
My wife works in the interiors trade as a buyer for a major retail company and buys this stuff for a living, she reckons it may be possible to find a small manufacturer who might be able to replicate it although it would have to be a 500/1000 metre run, we could probably do the red and the black/white stripes
(did the lhaza green have green stripe interior?)
to make it worthwhile I'd have to sell on the cloth to recover costs ( id probably try and make a few quid for the hassle but not a fortune), I'm trying to work out if there would be enough demand
Id sell the cloth insuitable lengths to allow people to get their seats re done at a trimmers themselves
I'm wondering how many people would go for original cloth in this way and how many mark 1s there are left that need it
any thoughts is it worth pursuing?

I would definitely have some of you.You would make a lot of money if it was near original spec. You would have to ensure it was manufactured using the correct shades, twist and picks per inch.Good luck, keep us informed

I'm interested, though can you work out what you estimate you would charge to supply enough cloth for a complete retrim? Price is key

He wouldn`t know until he found a weaver prepared to weave it.I spent 15 years as a weaver then pattern designer,I cant imagine he could even guesstimate at this stage. It is a very drawn out process.

I appreciate that Sean, but it's easier for me to say 'yes' or 'no' based upon a price, my pockets are only so deep  , I'll decide when he gets his quote from the weavers and worked out the pricing.

Cheers for the thoughts
Ill do alittle more digging and see what prices look like and come back if we get anywhere
Given no-one has come up with it commercially yet it may not be viable.
The problem is tying up the cash in a garage full of cloth that takes ages to sell, alternative would be to try and do a grand group buy or something

I would be interested. Cost may be the issue. FYI, Newton Commercial looked at re-manufacture of the trim about 18 months ago. Minimum order qty for them was 800 metres and cost did not stack up to do it.
If you can make it cost affective, bring it on! I don't think you will though unfortunately.
Cheers

I find it very strange that its not cost effective, when you can buy the older tarten cloth still from germany where surly there has to be less demand for that style cloth just due to the amount of cars left what have that type in them. So why is that one cost effective and not the other ones.
But i guess if newton commercial have found it to not worth while then i think you may struggle, worth looking into though

I wondered if they might have done
my wife thought about 1000 meters would be the min
I'd do it at cost if need be whereas they need to make a profit (which is fair enough)
The concern for me would be ending up shelling out for a 1000 meter run which I couldnt offload
What I could do is make some inquires see if we could get enough to do a group buy or half group buy to spread the risk.
Ill do a bit of digging if it looks a possibility Ill come back on it
cheers

I would be surprised if you can`t shift it to be honest. You be hard pushed to find a mk1 golf that aint got the drivers bolster worn and torn through the cloth.
If nothing else you could always bang them on ebay.
