HI ALL
I HVA E A MK 1 GTI CAMPAIGN THAT I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO TIDE UP FOR THE SUMMER AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME WITH WHAT COLOUR SHOULD THE INNER WHEEL ARCH BE. THE CAR IS MARS RED AND AM I CORRECT IN THINKING IT SHOULD BE THE SAME COLOUR?

MANY THANKS

I have had mine from nearly new and it was the same as the body colour under the arches.  The protective coating they applied underneath the cars at the factory had a coat of body paint over the top, but I found that as it was slightly flexible the paint wore off quite quickly if you were aggressive at cleaning it.  I have had to give mine a coat of paint since, although the plastic liners have cleaned up well using a steam cleaner.

I would avoid using Red Aerosol Smoothrite, as although the colour is very similar it runs everywhere and won't adhere to anything that is not spotlessly clean.

Just to add don't use smoothrite or hammerite in your wheel arches as its rubbish paint that will just chip off if any stones hit, its just a waste of money and time.
