front seat repair (dreaded bolster wear)

Post

Hello all

Appreciate this one is the plague of many, ans just need a guide to my options and some sample prices if anyones embarked on this before.

Got a cabby, drivers bolster wear and lower bolster rebuild needed, the seats aside from this are great.

As I see it ive got these options;
-a smart repair by a local outfit….think this would be ok but been advised it wont match great…
-ruled out sourcing a replacement as its looking costly based on fleebay…plush I only need 1 seat and my mrs will kill me if I put these in the bulging garage

Ang other ideas? Its a clipper grey houndstooth ans check in grey so not sure I could even get a cloth match…arghh!

Cheers
Ross

for the foam repair all you need is a passenger seat from a later mk1 cabrio, pre-90 mk2 gti or a polo gt/g40. strip all the covers and swap the foams, bin/sell whats left :)

for the fabric this is more tricky, if you can find a passenger seat same as yours great just have to deal with the extra hole in the fabric where the tilt lever was. you could fit a tilt lever surround into the hole to kinda disguise it or sew it up while the fabric is off the car, wont be too noticeable. lower fabrics obv same regardless of side so that will all be fine

Thanks for your comment.
Yeh, worth a go but think mainly due to space and sanity of the mrs I'll be looking at a patch job…shame as I only need a match to the grey fabric…. :P
