Accelerator Pedel recon

Pedel has excessive play

Noticed the other day My accelerator Pedel has excessive play in it.

I'm assuming it's just the bushing or some other sort of easily replaceable part. Also there's no rubber on it and hasn't been since I got it (which doesn't really bother me that much.

What parts do I need to completely overhaul it and make it like new?

I've seen both a cylindrical bush and a pedal rubber on VW heritage is there anything else I'd need?

there are 2 bushes, part number 823721543 which are NLA but Mark Carter at classic-vw.co.uk may be able to get some. Before you spend money get underneath and have a good look to see what the issue is, no good getting bushes if the brackets are all bent out of shape ;)

as for the pedal pad it shouldnt have one, but you can get them from another model. original part number is 171721647, replaced with 7M3721647. can be bought from the dealer at 12.51+VAT

Ok cheers RJ I'll take a look underneath and see what's going on but nothing looks bent just a bit sloppy.

If the movement/play is left and right then it could be bushing, if movement/play is up and down then could be the foam/rubber bush which holds the accelerator cable onto the pedal but you do want some play as if the cable is to tight and you "floor it" the bent in the cable will come out of shape and possible pop off the pedal.
You need to press the pedal to the floor and make sure the throttle is fully open when the pedal is on the stop and not before.

I was out somewhere yesterday, and saw a replacement pedal assembly…..

But I tend to thing it is the bushing that the accell cable goes through at the top of the pedal.  I had 2 of them turn to goo and fall out…. The last one that did it, I used a rubber bottle stopper whittled it down to size left a lip on one side drilled the center out.  Fitted the lip side opposite to the cable and used the clip to hold all in place… it's been on about 5 years strong.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Seems to be part of the mechanism itself, the hinged part, rest has just the right amount of lack in it. Can't mess with it till weekend though 😄
