What engine and anywhere you would recommend to go....

Hi All,

after trawling the forum for hours, im now very tempted to do an engine upgrade in my recently purchased Mk1 cab….

firstly is there anywhere anyone would highly recommend to send her to have this done, id love to tinker and attempt myself but i simply dont have the time..

also what would people recommend?is the 1.8T the more common choice or is there an easier route with a simpler engine

thanks in advance

Mike

Unless you want over 200 bhp, see no reason to go turbo. the kr 1.8 16v engine will make for a fun mk1, and assuming starting out with a 1.8 there will be no need to worry about changing the v5, if you was to go 2 ltr for instance.

fun being the word I'm after, assuming the 1.8 16v is an easier swap than the turbo?

is there anyone who does this for a fair price that comes recommended?

Also, what is the normal upgrade to the braking system?

Where in the world are you?
Which car are you starting off with, I guess its a 1.8 but is it carb or fuel injection?

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

I'm starting to gear up to do an engine conversion on my Cabby, just got the brakes to sort first. They're pretty poor with the standard engine so I want to upgrade them before I give the car more power.

I'm not going for the 1.8t for 3 reasons.

1. EVERYONE does it
2. I don't need over 200 brake (I didn't buy the Cabby to go fast in - Though I do want something with more poke)
3. I'd rather have something a bit different.

I'll be doing everything on my driveway come rain or shine. I've got another car so I can take my time too.

Basically have a think about what you want from the car? Would you have a go yourself (plenty of online help)? Would you be able to live without the car while the work is carried out?
