Mk2 GTI 8V conversion no spark

Post

Hello all, just after some help as I've bought a 1989 mk1 GTI Cabrio
In it someone has mounted a 1.8 GTI 8V engine out of a MK2. But its never run in this car.

Fuel lines are in and its fueling ok but I'm not getting a spark at the plugs / dizzy.
It does turn over.

I'm not quite sure what they have done but this is what I can see.

Its engine loom has had some modifications and has been re wrapped. As too the loom for the dash ?
Cant see any wiring for an immobiliser.
Its got a CE1 fusebox (Original I assume).

I've looked at the fusebox and wiring info on here and its really helpful. position D is plugged in. (Has been re wrapped / modifed)
D    White    29 pin    Engine compartment/wiper motor wiring harness, right side (position 6. 10, 14, 18, 27, 28 open)

position C isnt…. yet
C    Yellow    22 pin    Engine compartment/engine management, left side (position 10 open)
Does that matter? Can't see much in it for engine management.

Its got a new coil and TCI switch unit (I've tried several ones I've got). New dizzy and ht leads.
I've made sure the earth is good from batt to chassis and then to gearbox.
Does the head need to be earthed as well?
I've run through a check guide and have power to the switch unit but when i put a volt meter across the coil + and - and turn ignition on I don't get the expected 2v and a drop?

I want to check all of the wires that need to be modified have been and are connected correctly..

Does anyone know what wires needed to be modified for this conversion or is there a conversion guide for a MK2 8v GTI engine someone has done?
Sorry I have had a look but can only see conversion guides for the 16v engines.

Any help would be much appreciated
