s1 dash into cabby

Anyone ever fitted an s1 dash in a cab or s2?  All wiring done just can't seem to get the dash in without a serious amount of force. Just wondering if there is a knack of doing it without forcing it and probably breaking it. It's a side mounted plastic s1 dash. Have removed centre support for later dash from the car also. Any advice welcomed. Also what's the difference between an s1 golf dash and s1 scirocco dash if any? Thanks guys
