one for the 20vt experts....

Bought an engine from a mate who decided to go a different route with his mk1. He bought it with loom and ecu attatched, and these were still connected when I picked it up. The engine has the code AJH on the belt cover label, and I think it was originally fitted to a SEAT. The inlet sweeps in from the left, but its got a drive by wire throttle body, and I thought AJH was cable throttle like the AUG setup. The ECU is a bosch 7.5 unit, which im pretty sure is wideband....ecu number is  0261206438 06A 906 032 R Bosch ME 7.5. AJH engines are usually narrowband according to what little info I can find.
Have I bought a parts bin special? or will the ecu run the engine ok?
i want to strip it, paint the block and polish the ali bits so if its not gonna work out I dont wanna waste my efforts on this motor lol
Anyone have any insight?

It difficult one, I dont know to much about 20vt but I have a rule with engines.

Get it in, get it running before you go and spend more money or time on it

Unless your going for a full rebuild

Fair comment. Thing is, I dont want to go to all the agg of fitting and piping it up only to either find it does run and have to take it all out again to detail it, or that it doesnt run and have to take it all out again to source another lump.
Hours of google has drawn a blank on this, and I dont want to have to shell out a load of cash I dont really have on emerald/dta etc to get the thing working lol

Why not just turn the engine over by hand to check you have compression on all cylinders and you could pull of the sump to check the oil pump and crank shells . If that is all okay it will probably be fine you might just have to run a different ecu .

06A906032R ECU is off audi a3 AJQ engine, that might help you figure out what you got wiring wise ;)

AJH is an alhambra engine, not sure if those mount different to a golf/biza/a3

Thanks for the info buddy. Well I guess that would explain why I have a wideband ecu and a narrowband engine lol so I suppose the next question is can this be made to work or am I looking at trying to locate a loom and ecu from an alhambra?
Is there any other way of identifying the engine code other than the paper label on the belt cover? just to be sure its definitely an AJH.
The motor mounts the right way in the SEAT so it should bolt in ok on the usual custom mounts :)

yeah you just need to switch about some of the sensors over from a wideband engine to suit the ecu, or swap the ecu and loom for a narrowband one to suit the engine. could get the ecu and loom from a golf, a3, leon or even an alhambra but not sure what the looms are like on those. I know to avoid passat and a4 as those are a total nightmare to work with as the main bulk is sealed inside a lump of foam across the scuttle which needs stripping off

the basic 20v lumps are the same really, just a case of match up all the bolt on bits! you have differences in the ports big n small, so get the right inlet to match it and the right TB to match the inj system, some have VVT some dont but from what I read you can swap either way?
