Omp strut brace

Post

Hi just fitted an omp upper strut brace on my 1990 cabby .I'm impressed so far. cant really put my finger on it .just feels tighter .was going to complete it with an omp lower strut brace and possibly a rear too .only thing is I have an automatic gearbox so was wondering if it would clear underneath?   I've checked the forum for strut brace but the posts dont mention it .and there from back in 2010 .does anyone know if I would have any issues?  As the truth is I'm not sure at all?

This is not for an auto gearbox but may help in your search as I'm looking for a front lower brace myself but for an 02J gearbox fitment which also sits lower than a standard manual mk1 box:

The Euro Sport 18030 (2pt) & 18035 (4pt) curved lower braces claim to fit around the 02A/02J gearboxes with the 1.8t conversions. They only sell in the US so it will cost a fair bit to have shipped over

The Ultra Racing lower brace LA2-979 also curves down giving more clearance rather than straight across braces like all the others such as the OMP & standard late cabby K-bar. This can be bought in the UK

Vagobonds-Tunning, current seller on Ebay, used to supply a rose-jointed lower brace to curve under the 02A/02J in red, black or cream a couple of years ago. I've not had a reply back yet so perhaps they don't do them anymore:

Nice brace & clean engine bay you have there

The lower K brace from what i have seen will not fit the Auto as it interferes.  Then the Right lower control arm an an automatic is only about 1 inch clearance between the bod of the tranny and the Bolt head.

When changing the lower control arm on an Automatic Right side you have to Raise the Transmision about 4 inches on the back end to get Clearance to insert or remove the bolt, so the same would be for the lower K-bar and the clearance would diminish to such an extent that I would be worried about the Tranny beating itself up on the bolt head.

I am of the opinion that the lower K-Brace will not work on an Automatic…because of clearance issues, and the fact that over the X number of years I haven't ever seen one installed on a Auto.

Sure it was an omp top brace i bought many years ago, badly made, poor looking welds, didnt fit at all,  fit for scrap only.  did have a vagobond lower brace, quite heavy, nicely made, but unfortunately i sold it on..

Omp strut brace

Hi guys I've been in touch with the omp dealer and they said they've not had any fitment issues with it ? And the omp is not a k brace but a straight one .in Regards to fitment issues and welds .it fit  first perfect first time and the quality looks good ? So I might just order one and offer it up .

Oops, yes it's Weichers not Omp but at least you know it will fit 100% & the price is very good. The 4pt version is another £20 or so & is a similar shape to the K brace

Reminds me of a song from Man of La Mancha "To Dream the Impossible Dream…" just saying it will never be finished or perfect, you will always see the imperfections/flaws that need tweaking and the "I wish I would of done that differentlies."   :)

I've just ordered the Wiecher 513002 version which takes 5-7 days to be delivery from Germany (down as fitting the 50-60ps models & autos). The brace is not flat across & curves down & I'm hoping it curves down enough to go under my 02J. If it doesn't then it'll be up for sale!

Up on the Fylde, it rained in Great Eccleston this morning, and was gloomy, with rare fleeting flashes of sun, at Brockholes (junction 31 M6) this afternoon.
