Post

Hello i have a golf with a 1.8 8v carbed engine in it, turns out its failed the mot due to emissions and i dont think im going to have much luck finding a well looked after one. was thinking conversions and does anyone have any experience converting to a 16v 2.0L ABF engine? would be cool to know rough costs and how easy it could be to accomplish for someone who has minimal experience in doing things like this.

many thanks.

90% drop in in terms of fitment, yours is a big block so all your mounts will swap over if you keep the 020 box. 02a abf box will need custom mounts, but those are available off the shelf. 2 custom things you need apart from that, you need abf specific conversion manifold and your wiring loom adapted

fueling wise can use off the shelf bits from later cab/rocco plus gti main pump, then rubber or braided fuel lines or try mk2/3/polo plastic ones they should be a close fit

need to add a power pin for the fuel pump(s) to the rear harness, either fit a gti cabrio loom or get the guy doing your engien loom to do you a pin with 2 wires off it, a male spade for the lambda power to plug in and another tail for you to splice your pump power. or remove your whoel rear loom and send that to him to add the pump power in.

any wiring guy who has a clue can do this for you, if they dont know what you're on about or struggle to understand ask someone else ;)
