Hi,
I have bought and renovated a second hand set of calipers and hubs from a Golf mk2 GTI 16v but I have just realized that the mk2 front hubs wont fit my Golf mk1 cabrio coilovers since the have diffrent width in that interface (20mm original Cabrio, 26mm mk2 GTI). (So stupid)
Since my coilovers are new and just fitted I do not want to get new front ones. What are my best options? Are there any hubs that will fit my coilovers and the mk2 calipers or do I need to get a conversion bracket on my old hub to fit the mk2 calipers?

use mk1 bearing carriers is the easy way.
for mk2 you need to:
1. grind the top down so it fits mk1 shocks
2. fit mk2 golf manual track rod ends
3. fit ball joint or track rod spacers to correct bump steer (mk2 steering arm attachment points are lower than mk1)

Ok, thanks for the input. Then I'm leaning towards using my old hubs, I guess I need these conversion brackets?rubjonny said

Believe those brackets are for the 280mm g60 discs/carriers/caliper conversion, not sure the 16v parts you have are the same.

yes those are for mounting 280mm setup to a mk1, if you go with that you can get calipers and carriers from pre-96 mk3 gti, 16v and vr6.
the mk1 256mm carriers are off the scirocco 16v and old square audi 80 and sometimes can set you back more than the complete 280mm setup put together. depends how lucky you are though

Ok, I got the 280mm discs with these calipers.. is there any way to tell if they fit it I need to get 256mm discs?

those will fit with the scirocco 16v carriers, only difference between 256 & 280mm calipers is the 280 versions are a bit wider to allow for the thicker discs and pads

What width should it be for 280mm discs and pads? I have done some research and it seems to be G60 calipers and carriers, can you confirm from these pictures?

the calipers are definitly G60 yes, carriers are mk2/3 fit and are probably for 280mm discs too since the calipers are.
you can fit these with 280mm caliper adaptors worst case.
compare this measurement with your carriers, this was taken from a set of 256mm carriers:

I have around 75mm. I Guess that means that I can run 280mm discs and pads? What kind of pads/discs would fit this brake setup? There are two diffrent thicknesses. Diffrent ones if its Lucas or Girling?

yep that'll be a full set of 280mm brakes. just need the adaptors which you see floating around and you're away.
the G60 pads are the thicker ones, can still use the 16v pads as same shape though. can help if you dont have a lot of clearance to the wheel
