aeb 1.8t into mk1

hi guys

need some help here…i fitted the aeb 1.8t engine in my golf but now im having trouble getting the engine alligned
i bought these poly mounts

the way im holding it in the pic is apparently the wrong direction to fit them

when i put them in the correct way(thicker part of mount being up)

engine is higher up on driver side but the distance between cambelt tensioner and mount is ok

then i turn the poly mount around(the way im holding it in the pic) and engine is PERFECTLY level …but then

on the gearbox side im using brackets i bought from someone(the poly mounts are put in with thicker side up here)

anybody know whats wrong here?

you will find its not surpossed to sit level, most vag engines dont

Old dubs never die, they just get lower

i would be inclined to say the gearbox mount wasn't made very well? yet sits too low?

i thought that could possibly be my issue…..am i correct in saying that the tensioner is too close to the mounting point?could it cause an issue?

i still say the engine being on a tilt is normal, they do tilt from drivers side to passenger side on all vag engines

Don't think it should tilt that much, think I would be looking at modifying the g/box mount.

yes im going with that aswell…also last night i figured that the tensioner was tensioned down instead of up so it clears pretty well now.,.just need to get engine level  :P

does the intake usually hit up against the bonnet on these conversions?im using agu intake

so ive figured that the tensioner was tensioned downwards instead of up(bought the engine as is)
definitely moved it a bit further away now…still need to sort the mounts out tho..

engine should be about 15 degrees tilted this is normal as for the tension i went the other way with it so its higher

I had the same thing with my 20V T, just couldn't level it, then heard this was normal. I'm using epytec mounts which came from justcaddys.

Looks like the gearbox mount isn't fitted correctly,   shouldn't  the bracket  sit over the raised bolt holes,  which would move the engine a few mm over to the right

Mk1 2l TSR G60.  .getting. There twice as fast

Mk1 lhd diesel…….getting. There for half the cost

20v lean bk . I had problems with inlet manifold touching bonnet it's normal

Post some pics of how it sits now with tensioner right way

this is how it is atm….i turned the mount around and also  tensioned tensioner upwards..engine now laying perfectly level
it is tilted back quite a bit tho but i believe this is normal.
