Is it possible to do without modify the interior ?

Hi
I am thinking of putting in a electrical Power steering and have seen some photos of modified steering column using Vauxhall parts.
But I have never seen anyone mounted in the car. Is it possible to get it in there without "destroying" the interior. I want the interior to be more or less stock.
Anyone have some photos or info to share ?

Thanks
Nick

It's a corsa b column they use and graft the lower shaft of the column onto it.
Use the google search box on the site you'll pull loads up on it, think the Nissan bluebird system was a contender.
A company called MK2 mania used to make a bolt in kit. Not sure if they still do.

I have found photos of modified colums, but no photos of it mounted in the car. What I would like to see if there is a chance to get the Corsa steering into the car with all panels intact. I want the car to look stock.

mk1 golf convertable power steering video our easysteer eps retro conversion mk2mania 2013 - YouTube

Easysteer I belive do a speedo sensing version so it adjusts to drivng conditions.
On other systems it used to be a knob on the dash you turned to adjust the sensitivity, so the steering didn't go wooley at speed

I have been in contact with Rick (easysteer/MK2mania) and he says that he has done "tons" of them, but hasnīt a single photo of it in a car (exept the cab).
Seems strange that so many has done this operation and no one has any photos of it ?

Ok
Here's what I know.
Once it's fitted there is NO change to the appearance of the interior of your car.
It's all placed behind dash/column shrouds.
The reason why there isn't any photos of it fitted is because you wouldn't see any of it. The photo would look the same as it was before fitting. There's nothing visible to show it's been fitted. The same as an OEM VW factory set up.
With the OEM VW set up you'd see a pump, hoses, pulley etc but these are in the engine bay.

Well you have a point there  :P
But if you mount as MUUU second photo (hanging on the underside) it will intefer with the lower panel. And if you mount it as the first photo (on top of column) will it not intefer with the vent hose ?
Do you have it in your car ?

I don't have it in my car.
Just the cars I've seen with it fitted you can't tell.
Except for the early version of the set up. Which had a knob to adjust the sensitivity.
Is this for a tin top car?

Woah!!!
I wasn't expecting that lol.
Looks like you got your hands full mate.
I'd get back to Rick and check that the kit is ok on a tin top.
I'm sure if you use their kit you wouldn't see any difference.

Is yours a left hooker?
If so it may be an idea to get a power steering set up from Europe from a LHD car.
Just takes up space in the bay.
So if your putting a big motor in there and need the space the leccy set up may be better.

Yes, itīs LHD. and YES my hands are full for a while more
But most welding is done, so hopefully next Winter itīs time for paint (I only work on it during the Winter months)

I donīt want to be a pita, but I really want to see some photos of it. Because I know it is a thight fit if you want to get all parts in there.
I am leaning on using a LHD servo, but when looking into a standard car, I can see that it will be some problem. So I hope someone that has done this, maybe can take some photos or at least can tell what problem they run into.
But it nice to hear that you say that the cars you have seen is looking stock.

I will probably do this conversion myself, then I can make sure it fit as good as possible (maybe needs to be angled a bit up or down to fit best.

I also got a tip to use one from a Opel Agila, do you have those cars ?, their servo are a bit smaller (havent meaured myself yet).

From memory I think Nissan bluebird or a Toyota seemed to fit with modding.
I think there was a wedge to fabricate that tilted the column/rack bolting mounts slightly.
I'm on my iphone4 at the moment.
When I can to a proper PC I'll see if I can find any links.
It's so painful using this old phone lol.

Looking better with a roof

Having said that the Toyota and Nissan ones were pump driven I think.
It's the corsa for leccy unless others have tried something else?
