Adding few rubber bits.

Post

Due to accidentally dropping 100proof denatured alcohol on my valance, and wiping it up, which took the paint down to metal.. Crappy spray job after a repair I wasn't told of when I bought it…. I had to re-spray the Valance….. it looks so pretty and I decided to add 3 rubber pads (glued with Black RTV)
To keep the paint from rubbing off. So for those doing a re-spray or shaving… these little rubber bits will keep it looking nice.

If you look at the corners I made a round (dot) pad, and glued them where the rubbers on the bonnet met with the paint to prevent Chafing.
Where the Bonnet Prop Rod Hook rests I added a square pad to prevent the hook from contacting the paint when the bonnet is closed….

Just a heads up to those that do a respray on how to keep it shiney.

Yes I gelded my Bunny, I took the egg crate off, and used a large check valve pair off a Chrysler Van to told the vacuum for the defroster servos, and routed the vacuum line to the left of the engine through a grommet in the rain tray (used the hard vinyl pipe as a feed through) I also ran the wind screen sprayer hose through the grommet to keep it out of the rain tray, and up into the lower hood cover and inside the hood frame to the sprayer.
I did one thing that vw didn't I took my sprayer hose and split the line where it is at the rubber for the bonnet to rain tray.  I inserted a But-to-Butt connector so that the sprayer hose wouldn't compress at that point so I get full pressure spray.

I then Tie-wrapped the hose to the hinge to keep it out of the way.  I was always bothered by the vacuum hoses getting in my way when I went to work on the car….

Adding few rubber bits.

Are the rubber pads on those recess bits?

Those are for the rubber bumper stops on the bonnet which you turn to lower or highten the bonnet level with the wings.
Good idea though if those bumpers are worn and the bonnet shut lines are out of wack.
Nice idea Briano.

Chortle the bonnet bumpers are fairly clean and new. but they can cause wear point when contacting the metal… and I have tried to screw them out of the way but they stabilize the bonnet when closed…. so I had to think of something… :)  And the Flat rubber in Red, Black and a Brown I usually have a sheet or 3 laying about.

Good one mate.
I had a badly fitting bonnet and didn't realise that those rubber bumpers screwed in and out to adjust.

Yep you're right though they do rub the paint there.
Good tip.
