engine into mk1

hi im looking at putting a 2l 20v non turbo ALT engine in my mk1 running on throttle bodies and cant find much info, i know everyone uses 20v turbos and ther is lots of mods and info on them. but i want to do it for somthing abit differant. i already have a megasquirt ecu i could use and some throttle bodies but just need a bit of info on fitting the block. does it uses he same mounts as a  18t or are they differnt? the alt engines are normaly fitted to passats and audi a4s so are longitudal fitted but iv seen passat 18ts fitted to mk1s so expect a simlar araingment.
any help would be great, cheers

the block will use same mounts as equivalent 1.8 turbo lump as they are basically the same lump just different internals. For fitting passat 20v you would need a few bits from transverse 20v n/a or turbo lump to fit such as sump, maybe oil filter housing etc :)

main problem would be the exhaust manifold, the mk1 20v stuff is for turbo so wont go on n/a block you'll probably have to make something up custom

good i was hoping it was same as it will make it easier than having to make custom mounts.
iv also been looking into the possibility of a 02s 6 speed box do you think it would go well with it?
i did think i would  have to have a manifold made, and will prob be most expensive part, id like it to be a 4 branch type, iv got a kr in at the min with a 4 branch and will see if it can be used with relivent mods. just waiting for the right engine to turn up now.

if you can find a box with decent ratios for an n/a engien it'll be a nice upgrade, I have 02s on my list of things i want to do :lol:

a kr 4 branch will be close I recon, just a case of lop flange off and make something suitable up i guess.

not sure if you can get a transverse 20v manifold, if you can then maybe fit that and make a downpipe from half 20v and half mk1?  shouldn't be too bad that way, as i think mk4 manifolds end up closer to driver side than on mk2 manifolds, plus you wont have to work around the 020 rod linkage
