1987 mk1 GTI cabby engine power gains

Hi guys im new to this group so dunno what im doing really,  but i was wondering if anyone has any info on getting some more get up n go out of the 1.8 8v GTI engine.

Also jd like to know has anyone been down a 1/4 mile in there mk1 gti ? What times did you get ect…
