when you fit a 1.8t in a mk1 and remove the PAS…there is a massive heavy bracket that supports the PAS pump and alternator…so what do people do:
cut down the OE bracket
fit new/alternative bracket - if so where from?
if you just ditch the bracket you have no alternator!
or is there another option?
can you mount the alternator lower? any advantage?
do people run a tensioner on this option or just tension off the alternator brackets (which is what I was thinking - like most older cars)
thanks…

I cut down the original bracket in my mk2.
Then run a smaller belt obviously.

I'd get it out of your head.
Plenty of other things to worry about when you 1.8t a mk1.
