1.8 K-Jet to ITB & ECU

Post

Hello All,

Have seen bits and bats over multiple forums, but never really anyone 'doing' it in any detail

I already understand carbs are infinitely more plug and play, and engine conversions offer more power… but its not always about that, went for a 20v, then G60 … came back to the original as its the only one that's given me that 'feeling' when in the 'bay.

At the point now where the engine is rebuilt, so having the WUR, Metering Head and new Injection lines/ injectors are next, but that will probably cost close to 1k, done properly and with a warranty.

Now I know ITBs and ECUs will cost a fair amount, but a lot of the cost of rebuilding the tired 70's components will cover it, and it'll offer more reliability, efficiency, tune-ability.

I've been looking at getting;

> DCOE manifold, either Sidedraught Weber, or Downdraft Spa (looks nicer  and possibly less heat soak)
> ITB, either OMEX or Jenvey currently… cheaper alternatives considered
> Lumpy cam - ITB's can make it more liveable
> Megasquirt
> Wideband (to enable closed loop)

Where I'm not so sure, is trigger wheel and TPS compatibility, and keeping the distributor as a spark only jobbie/ controlled by ECU, I know it can be done however

So anyone already done this? Pro's, Con's, hint, tips ? Anyone to make a loom :ninja:I know its not 'worth' it for headline power figures, or easiness…. its more for the challenge

Cheers,
Adam.

usually aftermarket ecu can be setup to pickup from hall sensor in the dizzy so no problem there, certainly not a problem with megasquirt.

looms are pretty simple for these things, loads of guys out there can do it for you myself included if you dont mind waitign for a while

I don't mind waiting

Will have a PB head/ injection stuff for easier oem install and then dizzy soon

Will pm when I've decided on some things on the build, I'm going emerald at the mo: don't think it'd make a difference for wiring though?

Also just out of curiosity, you think a knock sensor is useful? I've a PG and soon the PB block knocking about, thinking one of them might be better, if it has use …. PG has oil squirters too, maybe overkill on a n/a…. hmmm…. decisions

Cheers
Adam

doesnt really make a difference to me what ecu you go with in the end so long as I can get a diagram for it.

if the ecu supports knock sensor then why not bung one on :)
