For pricing my own car, I assumed that I had yet to purchase a 1983 golf GX (1457cc) valued at £2000
I had a check of the board and complied a list of numbers.
Won't quote due to age
Lancaster
Bishops calway
Carol Nash
Rh classic insurance (really polite chap)
Footman James ( did put me through to call connection and they found someone who would quote me)
Quotes
Halfords/autosaint £4955.68 (black box)
Flux just over £6000 3000 miles
Feel a little disappointed, but hopefully some board member might have some great advice that will get a reasonable price for me .

Get a tracker and immobilizer installed that should bring the insurance down.
When i was younger i got insured with tesco, they gave a massive discount because i had a clubcard + i got loads of points on my card too

How old are you and how many no claims do you have?

Should of mentioned that I guess I'm 17 with zero no claims. I'll defiantly have a play around with quotes with a tracker and immobilizer. Tesco would't quote the car for me online and I couldn't find a phone number.

I called them all direct with the exception of halfords which is my cheapest quote weirdly enough. I'll try and grab one when i'm next in store.

if you do for your own insurance put your mum or dad on the policy it will bring it down
I did, put them both as named drivers as they may occasionally use the car.

You'd also be better off with a smaller engine for a couple of years until you've built up no claims, a golf GX (1457cc) might not be a speed machine but a 1.1 or 1.3 would be better in the eyes of the insurance companies.
Sounds like a good idea, 1.1 will be fine as a first car.

I think your only chance is to get insured as a second driver mate, then get one of your parents to insure it as the primary policy holder. I passed in 1998and i still had to do it that way back then to be able to afford it, and that was on a 1.3 Ford Escort Eclipse LOL
The current policy with AXA won't even give me a quote as an additonal driver, it's not up for renewal for a couple of months. When I was in swintons they quoted £10000 for me as a named driver, can't remember the company but they won't all be as bad.
