Hi,
The previous owner told me that my '1.1c' was a 1.3 after a conversion. I need to tell the insurance bit would like to give them a code (like gg or gf whatever they are!)
Cant find it on the block though? Where is it located?
Cheers
Rob

Im having the same issue, my block is an early vw small block but i cannot find the engine code anywhere, ive looked where it says in the haynes manual for a small block mk1 but no luck Are there many differences in parts required, just because at the moment im looking to buy some bits and am wary about asking for mk1 bits...?

If its an engine with an eight bolt rocker cover, the engine number should be on the head gasket face, just above the alternator/engine mount. There is a small area still visible which the head doesn't cover, it should be stamped on there.
If it is a 3 bolt rock cover engine, the engine number should be on the engine block face just underneath where the thermostat housing bolts to, and just above the gearbox.
Either way, its likely the metal needs cleaning back before the number is actually visible because even the slightest corrosion will hide the markings.
