drivers weren't 1983-1984 only cars, although most of them you see are on an A plate (including mine).
there's someone on here with a small rear light driver.

@1980 W-reg there was a Driver special edition, very very few still survive. Think they were S1 small rear light?
1983 the much more popular version came out as a runout version along with the 5 door GX and GTI Campaign to keep sales going whilst everyone was waiting for the MK2 Golf.

Indeed there was a small light model, available in three colours…. a vivid santos ('kermit') green, mandarin orange and mars red.

My mates brother had a W reg driver, in mars red, good memories of hooning around like lunatics in that car.

Lucky enough to have one of the remaining alive '80 W plate Driver in mandarin orange (though my respray not quite up to scratch and finding the colour match was damn hard).
It's got the old skool GTI interior with drop down glovebox (also was near impossible to find replacement).
Most are probably dead nowadays due to poor rust proofing in pre-82's as I found out during restore.
Currently having typical fuel supply issues, diagnosed as sub par fuel pump and leaky flexi fuel pipe (old rubber ones), oh and little rusty bits in the lines !!
Will try to keep it on the road as long as possible before rust kicks in again.
