weber carb fitting on 1300 - help needed.

i've bought a weber carb for my 1300, i needed a ?20 part to fix my solex, so thought i might as well spend ?60 and get a weber.
the carb itself went on with no trouble, the only problem i have is with the throttle cable, it now meets the carb at such a strange angle that when you take your foot of the accelerator, the cable doesn't return fully.
does anyone have any images or diagrams of a properly fitted one? as i'm sure there's something i've done wrong. i can't find anything on line either.
i'll try and get some pictures of mine up tomoz, at which point someone will probably point out that i've attached it to the starter motor or something.
Thanks

j1mg,

What weber do you have fitted? I can mail you some pics of mine if interested, it is a 32/34 DMTL on a later (MK2) HK engine though so may be different.

My carb was for a Nova auto, so the throttle linkage was bizarre. I had to swap the original linkage on the carb for the correct one for the golf, and got the part easily (for about ?14) from the local weber agent.

Hope this is of use,

got it on in the end, suprising how little info i could find though.
although i do have another question, where is the engine code? as i was told it's in the boot, which is great if it's the original engine, but mine isn't. i need to know as my car still won't work, and the fuel pump is the suspect.

also do you know where to get a cheap bolt on filter? as the original one doesn't fit on the weber, due to location not size.

cheers

Glad you got the Weber on.

The engine number is not in the boot - I think the chassis numbver is written there somewhere, but the engine number is on the engine unsurprisingly.

Facing the engine (i.e. standing at the front of the car) the engine number is stamped on the block on the left, juat elow the head gasket and cylinder head. If you look just above the alternator you should see it. You may well need to scrape away at all the dirt to see it though.

I went for a K&N bolt on - did set me back about ?45, and I had to order it though. They are supposed to be a lot better than most of the alternatives, and they come in a varierty of sizes if you have clearance problems with the bonnet top (I've got a later HK engine, and this was a major problem.

Some people complain about carb icing with the bolt on K&N, but I'm pretty confident that if the carb is set up right with the K&N on you will be fine. I do have the later water-heated manifold though, which may help matters.

If you do want to use your original filter one alternative might be to get the conversion ring which sits on top of the weber and converts it to take the pierburg (or solex) air filter. You can probably order this from a weber agent as well. I've got one of these for a 32/34 DMTL to Pierburg 2e2 fitting (i.e. MK2 golf filter) which I don't really need, but would liketo keep in case I ever sell the carb. I can though get the part number and/or mail you pictures if it is of any use.

Good luck,
