Various things.

Hi everyone new here and I bought a 1983 Golf C 1.1 last Tuesday, it had been sat for two years but runs and has an MOT. Enough history onto the issues, I need a new exhuast manifold, and radiator fan. I've had no luck with Eurocarparts, GSF, Crazy Quiffs or vwspares, for anything Mk1 1.1 specific is there any other dub that shares these parts I can buy?

Also a running issue the car stalls when idling after putting the manual choke in fully, not sure what the problem is, old petrol? Engine timing? hole in exhaust manifold causing it to lose pressure? It will run when I put in some revs so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thats very helpful thanks! How do I flush out fuel lines? (Complete newb to all this  ) Thought it might be a clogging problem, and luckily was planning a new fuel tank although it wasn't first on the list of expenses :( .

Is it worth getting new fuel lines, looking at braided ones on crazy quiffs, don't know which ones I need though, could I ask what I need in terms of the carb? A serivice kit, or new one? And if I need a new one any recomendations (especially in terms of size).

Edit: Crazy Quiffs has two 1.1 carbs so just need to look if I've got a 2 or 4 stud thank you!

Thanks again.

I'll be keeping my eye out on ebay, parts sites etc for the manifold, I think the pipe leading back to the air filter is  a carb warm up, apparently people have gone without on 1.3 even if it struggles at times.

you might not need a new fuel tank unless its rotted id check the filler neck as mine was in a right state so my tank was full of bits there not that expensive to buy at crazy quiffs and you can drain your tank of fuel and use a magnet to get rust bits out . as for carb id go for a new one as they do wear out .you need a air line to blow out pipes i had mine done at crazy quiffs as live quite near to his garage and mine runs fine now. if your not to far away you should pop in and see them good bunch of lads and not that expensive. but definatly get a haynes manual there a life saver   :D

Okay thanks Stu, already got a haynes manual and haynes mk1/2 restoration manual on the way. My fuel filler neck looks awful, had a check straight away and that went top of the list with a new radiator. I think I'll just get a new tank rather than pull out rust, only ?65. Same with the carb'.

I live in the North West so a quick trip is wayyyyy out of the option, 3hr journey, going to have to find somewhere local when I've sorted out the old parts for new.

Going for new filler neck, carb, oil and fuel filter, tank, radiator, raditor fan motor, and need a manifold from somewhere to sort out the mechanical side.
