Top end rebuild 1.3

I need to do a top end rebuild on my mk1. The cam shaft is warn making my tappets sound like they are trying to escape my engine. I thought If I'm going to make the effort in sorting it out I may as well replace the lot.

I will need all seals and gaskets, cam shaft, tappets….ect (everything)

Where's the best place to get all the stuff I need? Had a look on GSF but couldn't find what I was looking for.

what type of head is it? does it have combustion chambers on the bottom face? and does it have mechanical or hydraulic tappets? i may be able to help you. i have a fully rebuilt head that i had overhaul'd by mistake. if you want you can call or text me on 07808741364

Not totally sure what head is on it at the moment. But surely can just replace the whole thing with the one you have no problem?

Yeah still using your old one mate. Looking to go down the 16v conversion route like you in the near future, but would like to have this one running nice for now.

Engine is still driving nice and all, just hate the sound of a noisy tappet. Lol Sometimes its all I can hear at night after a long drive. Drives me insane.

Anyone know if the 1.1 and 1.3 cam shafts are different? Just remember I got a good one kicking about. Would have thought they are though?

good luck sourcing parts for your GF head. the head i have will not fit your engine, the main reason is you have flat top pistons and the GF head will have combustion chambers in. my overhauled head is a later 1.3 head. this head has a flat head, and it has the ball and crown pistons. cam shafts are hard to get hold of, i sourced one off a chap on here who races them. you may want to try and find a stage 1 cam, if there is such a thing, you may pay daft money for a kent cam thou. i dont know much in the way of tuning mk1s becuase my driver is my first golf. before you take your head to pieces i would advise you and ask yourself 'do i really need to do this?' becuase i spent about 2mounth with cylinder hassel, and i wouldnt wish that kind of hard work on my worst enemy. haha. any more help mate just ask.
