TO SCRAP OR NOT TO SCRAP

HI EVERYONE LOVE THE FORUM,BIG PROBLEM THE CAR IS AN 83 DRIVER 1.3 WITH 80K ON THE CLOCK,SHE WASN'T IDLING CORRECTLY WHEN I BOUGHT HER SO DID AWAY WITH THE PEIRBURG CARB AND BOUGHT A NEW WEBBER,TOLD BY MECHANIC ONE OF THE VALVES WAS BURNT OUT SO HAD THE HARDEN SEATINGS PUT IN FOR UNLEADED.AFTER ALL THAT WEBBER WAS STILL OVER FUELING EVEN AFTER NON- RETURN VALVE&FUEL RESTRICTER FITTED.MECHANIC SAYS NOW THAT THE ONLY REASON THIS IS STILL HAPPENING IS BECAUSE THE PISTON RINGS MUST B HARDEN AND WILL NEED REPLACED.SHOULD I. JUST CUT MY LOSSES AND FIT SOMETHING BETTER OR KEEP GOING

To do pistons your gunna have to strip a lot of the engine and renew, so would be cheaper/easier to fit a different engine?

Is your mechanic clued up on carbs/webber? Maybe wrong but could need setting up properly if over fueling?

All VW engines since about 1970 already have valve seats suitable for unleaded.

Non-return valve doesn't influence fuel mixture.

Fuel restrictor doesn't influence fuel mixture.
