timed the engine, but no room to retard?

timed it up fine but seems it was running a bit advanced as now i've timed it the dizzy is right at the end of it's adjustment!  It's dead on the marks i just had to really push it tight into the screw slot to get it there!

Is this normal on a formel E? seems a bit weird to me.

also seems to be running a little lean at full chat, haven't got a haynes yet so can someone tell me the standard jet size? I'll post that in fueling too.

sounds like the static timing may be off? other thing it could be is the dizzy is clamped down with the wrong bolt holes, not sure on the small block butiirc on the big block 16v there are 2 sets of holes that can be used.

I don't think it's possible to fit the cam wrong.

I would definatly be checking the static timing and the point gap.

well static is fine, checked that already! cant see how it could be adjusted as it's not like the dizzy drive can be in wrong either with it being the end of the camshaft!!!!

only one set of mounting holes too.

weird isn't it lol

Ok, Check that the mechanical advance moves freely and the vacum advance works ok.

ah one thing, did you set it with the vacuum pipe disconnected and plugged? if not, that'll explain it :)

checked the gap and then the dwell again the other day, dwell is 44degrees so should be spot on

Ah well it runs ok!

If your cam timing was a tooth out wouldn't that explain it?

well it isn't lumpy at all and i had a corsa to work on a while back that had jumped one and was lumpy as heck! gonna have a look tomorrow and pop the belt off to see.

but yes that would put the dizzy out and explain why it was advanced in the first place!

could be the dizzy is foobared mate, had the same problem, went to set the timing, but it wouldnt run right, so played with the dizzy and set it advance it was something like 20 degrees too advance and i got a new bosch dizzy bolted that on and it was fine.

forgot to re-post lol

turned out timing was 1tooth out at the cam end, and the belt was like wet knicker elastic!

done and sorted!

runs like a dream now with room to adjust both ways!
