tappets
i think i need to replace my tappets ive got a rattling from the top of my engine. it gets worse as the revs get higher. engine code is py, they are hydraulic and should self adjust. before i fork out on a new set is there a way of testing the old ones?
should i replace the whole lot or find which ones have gone? it seems to be worse at the timing case end of the engine.

Could it be the same problem i have with the cam being worn out?
If its possible pop your rocker cover off and have a look at the condition of the camshaft. If theres a flat spot on the end of the lobe or a 'divot' then the ratlling noise could be the cam.
Also check your timing belt tensioner.
