Starting Issues

Hi guys, i'm after some help with a niggling problem. I've recently bought a 1.1 1981 mk1 and its runs well etc bt causes problems when trying to start it from cold.

I've seen there are a lot of posts regarding similar issues but none the same so thought i'd see if someone can solve my problem

From cold ie: left overnight its a pain to start. If trying to turn over for more than a few seconds it seems to flood with fuel and needs to be left a few minutes.
If you turn the key for a couple of seconds it makes a lame attempt to fire but never does. Once turned over three or four times (for a couple of seconds at a time, leaving for 30 secs or so in between) it sort of starts running on 2 then more often than not stalls. Next turn of the key with some pumping the throttle lightly it will splutter on 2 until it then clears and is fine. For the first few minutes it will cut out at junctions but nothing a small amount of choke doesn't cure.
One warm its fine.

If left for up to four or five hours it does seem to fire up ok but mch longer and it wont  :banghead:

Any ideas?

Cheers in advance

Ashley

this is again the same problems i was having - its really quiet simple and cheap to fix -

its quick to point the finger at the fueling system maybe - ie the carb

but try changing the distributor points and condenser… worn point ( as iv been told ) are the first place to check when the car starts to drive odd or start funny,

is the car juddering at low speeds and on excelleration?

if so then i would deff change the bits i just said….

any more advice please ask

cheers
