solex/pierburg woes........it's driving me crazy!!

have a mk1 driver that just fails to want to even try to run!! It try's to fire but then the whole car shakes + then dies! I checked fuel cut-off, ig. leads, points, condensor, fresh petrol, fuel pump.

 It's got the 1300 engine in it with a solex 34 pic 6 carb!?  I have come across all the other versions of this solex series but not this one!  At first I thought the rubber mounting block had gone - but noticed I got petrol seeping out of the throttle butterfly spindle!!  8O

Firstly should this carb be fitted to this engine? (managed 77bhp (at wheels) on dyno in past so guess it (used) to work ok)

What can I replace it with if it's shafted? Motorbike carbs? webber?

Advice please….

By the way the motor has only done 74K  :mrgreen:

replace it with a webber dtml and enjoy happy motoring..

junking my peirburg was  the best move I made on my previous car.

ive tried every where for a webber for my 1985 13 cab and no joy.please please tell me where you got this carb.  

have a look for a weber 34 ICH (direct replacement)
