My Haynes manual suggests that the 1300 mk1 engine was first introduced in 1979 with the code GF. This appears to have been the only prefix for the MK1 1300 (1272cc) engine. The compression ratio is down as 8.2 to 1.

I found the HK prefix referred to as being for the MK2 Golf 1272cc - sorry no compression ratios. Suggest having a look at aHaynes for early MK2 Golfs, might be little difference between a GF and HK.

The HK from the A2 platform runs a 9.5:1 compression.

If I remember correctly, series 2 Mk1's (at least, maybe series 1's too?) with a 1100 engine (non-Formel E) had the engine code GG. Can't remember any others, other than 1272cc GF, mentioned above.

Series 1 with 1093 cc engine had code FA up to and including MY 79.

The HK engine will be from a Polo 1.3 of around 1985 vintage.

Or a golf possibly from the same age? My Haynes lists the HK engine for Mk2 Golf 1.3..
