replaced rubber carb mount with aluminium/tuffnol

I thought i would share this

Hey,
The old rubber carb mount on my car was perished and suspect, as in true DIY spirit (and had nothing else to do on the last day of term at college!) I set about making my own.

I used 6mm aluminium plate and tuffnol sheet with gaskets on all mating surfaces. Cut the gaskets on a laser cutter, and the tuffnol on a computer controlled engraving tool. Used a hole saw and files to create the centre hole in the aluminium and a jig saw and files to shape the outside.
The studs are stainless steel and made from m6 bolts with the heads cut off and ends tapped, held in with loctite.
Finished article:

I wouldn't advise making one like this, took too long plus too many surfaces to potentially leak. Was interesting though.

Cheers
Rob

So you won't be running off a batch of a hundred or so then  ;)

Nice idea. Does the original rubber mount have any sort of role in insulating the carb from engine vibrations?

Haha nah wouldn't want to make another, especially after finding a new rubber one for a tenner..

Don't think it is to prevent vibration, just to insulate from the heat, but may be completely wrong! I hope I am right…
