question about 1.3 and possible problems?

hey guys,

very new to the forum as previous member at clublupo (swapping lupo for golf mk1 tomorrow)

I am just wondering if anyone has advice or things to look out for expect rust? Just looking for some pointers.

Is it wise driving one 300 miles in one journey, you know what they say with these old cars :)

Make sure there is plenty of good quality new oil in the engine and gearbox, water in the coolant.

Small block 1300 is a simple engine and will go forever if its looked after with plenty of oil changes.

Get used to 4 gears and top speed of 60 without ear defenders..!

Good luck with the car

Covered about 400 miles and its perfect, only problem was with the choke not properly going back in.. turns out I need some sort of spring/tensioner that keeps the carb open... any ideas? thx

There is a carb conversion that gets rid of the choke cable making it an auto choke but a new return spring is much cheaper

Thanks, how much are both?

But where can I buy one of these springs?

These engines aren't indestructible, but not far short.

I've run mine as a daily driver for 3 years now, and in that time it's travelled several 400 mile trips - only time it let me down is when I ran it out of oil :redfaced:

Mine uses 1 litre oil/1,000 miles - which I understand is somewhat excessive, and could be down to my mishapen cylinders.
