polo GT engine and box. Kjet?

Hi guys, I have a mk1 1 golf c 1.1 and I am after a polo gt 1.3 engine. I havent done much research yet so excuse my ignorance.

Im assuming as its a small block it will fit with my current engine mounts.

Is it electronic fuel injection or mechanical. Would i need a new fuel tank? I might just get some webbers. also im not keen on wiring!

im also assuming that the 5 speed box will fit if i cut a section out of my chassis leg.

Im off to uni to study automotive engineering so im ready to get my hands dirty and to spend some time doing this and do it right.

The reson im choosing this engine is because it is relatively powerful for a 1.3 and its a small block and i can still get insurance, whereas i wouldnt have a hope with a gti swap.

Thanks, Will

It bolts straight in. It's a similar injection system to the Digifant found in the mk2 Golfs. I've got a single point Polo engine in mine. Only takes 6 wires. You shouldn't need to do anything to the car to fit the 5 speed, just make a suitable mount as the 4 speed one is totally different. If you do a search on here and Club Polo, you'll find all the info you need.

Cheers thats good. I guess i will have to face my wiring phobia!

I tried the search function but no matter what i do it comes up with over 4000 entries. is the mount easy to make yourself?

Im looking forward to all this.

Pictures of someone else's mount are here. If you do decide to mod the standard bracket in this way, I'd also try to use the larger bush from the big block cars. This is still available and there's a poly insert for it too. It requires the tube from the big block gearbox mount. The metal tube is lower in the bush than the small block one, so it would need a bit of thinking about, but it's definitely do-able. I'm not sure whether to do this or go to the next stage of a competition bush as used in Escort Rally cars, etc. I've got all the parts, but I'm trying to sort out the one at the other side first.

i was thinking of doing the very same mod myself after seeing this GT on ebay -

if you aint got an engine for the conversion yet give it a look.

good luck
