oil pressure light?

light keeps coming on on the dash occassionally but when you knock the engine off and turn it back on light goes ou and stays out for a few days then happens again keep checking the oil but it isn't going down. could it just be a faulty switch or something more sinister?

yeah thought that would be the case wasn't sure if there was a common issue with oil pumps or anything like that?? cheers for the reply.

I think you should do as chudd said. Mine again, when i switch the ignition on it goes on and off once then i dont see it again. I know on my other car (nissan sabre 200gxi) the oil light stays on untill the engine has been started and then it goes off.

its not on start up it happens ...... oil light and buzzer comes on after the car has been driven for a half hour and is hot. knock the engine off turn it back on and it goes off.

By the sound of it you've got the same trouble I had, its the monitoring unit itself. Its an 'L' shaped circuit board and it lives behind the speedo in the instrument cluster, VW still sell them but they're expensive. They were the same for most VW's up to around 1989 so the best bet is to get one from a scrapyard. If the yard you go to is known to be expensive these don't look like a car part.
