Noise when clutch pedal released

Hi all,
       On my mk1 citi 1.3, Can someone confirm my possible find, when in neutral i can hear a whirring sound, then when i put down the clutch pedal it stops and reappears when i release the pedal.
I take it the clutch release bearing as gone? if so how hard is it to repair this part, plus is it the same part as on the early mk2 golf 1.6 block

I'd agree yes, I don't know how easy/hard to change though

                   Is the part the same as the early mk1 & mk2 golf's.
I dont know as yet as i dont have a haynes manual, its been ordered, hopefully mine will turn up end of next week.
