New mk1 owner - SA import lots of questions

Hi all!

Just picked up a 1996 1.3l South African import. I'll get some pics up when it eventually stops raining!

First question i hope you guyz can help me with is what engine is it? and what year can i say it is compared to the original uk spec so when i am hunting down parts etc it will stop alot of confusion!

second question - Can some tell me where the Temp gauge sender & coolent sender are on a MK1 1.3.

As the temp gauge does not work (but the engine does not over heat and the fan kicks in)

And the coolent warning light flashes intermittently, but the level is correct and is not loosing anywater!

btw i already ahve a MK2 valver and am pretty compentent at mechanical and electrical work on that, so i am hoping this should be alot easier, although i have never played with a carb befre!

Hope i have not asked to many questions on my first post.

Take care

Hi Bert, i am trying to get a haynes manual off ebay, but which one do i go for, the blue one cobers the 1093cc, 1273cc engines and the green one covers - 1093cc 1457cc and 1471cc and 1588cc engines.

I am assuming that my engine is the 1273cc?

Cheers

Finally i am going to be doing a service next week (been sooo busy)

Ok, i have failed to get a manual, so i am just going to do a basic service, Bert - you mentioned that the parts for the engine are the same for the 1.5 uk cars, is this a 1.5 mK2 or mK1?

It's just i just want to pop down gsf and get the filters, plugs etc without any hassle :)

Also what engine oil do you reccomend on this engine, one of the Synta's?

Thanks

Ok thanks to tomo i have got all the parts i need for this service, it should be easy enough hopefully.

Being cheeky here, but i don't suppose some one who has the SA citi Haynes manual could lend it to me? I could photo copy it for the service i need to do and then send it back, i'd cover all postage and insurance on it and a few quid extra for the hassle!

Pleasae pm me if you would be kind enough to lend it.
