Need a quick reply

Ok I know its not the right section but I need a quick reply to get this new weber on

I seem to be missing a part from my original intake system. The arrow in the picture is the 'heat shield'. But I havent got this at all. All I have is 1 gasket and the flange.

Do I need it for the carb to be spot on or doesnt it really matter?

dont think it matters. you'll still get heat soak from the manifold with it. now get that carb on.

I dont get how this throttle clamping thing works

You have to cut the nipple off the end of the throttle cable, use the ferrule and throttle clamp that they provide(number 19 and 20 in the pic above)

I have slid the ferrule onto the end of the cable so the cable is flush with the end of the ferrule. Then do you slide the ferrule into the clamp and tighten it? It just dunt look very sercure, like it cud slide out easy?

just tighten it up tight. use a similer design on cable disc brakes and they have never come loose. if your worried about it put a bit more cable though the ferrel and add another behind it.

Rate ave tried it, an when ya pull throttle cable it just slides straight outta the ferrule thing

you need to tighten the screw up tight then fella. i thouhgt the ferrel was only there to stop the cable being exesivly squashed. :dontknow:

Ahh well the cable is now just squashed as I've ditched the ferrule lol. Works good though

Everythings connected up

1. Fuel pipes
2. Thottle and choke cable
3. Fuel stop solenoid

Tried starting it but no luck as battery went dead, it was turning over for about 10 seconds

Few questions

1. On the standard carb there is another electrical connection plug, its attached to the fuel stop connection wire, do I just leave this unplugged?

2. On the standard airbox you have 2 nipple underneath it, one goes to the standard carb. On the new weber it says you plug it onto the nipple on the adapter plate(lettered 'J' in the pic above). If I leave the standard airbox off, do I just put the tube on the nipple and stick a screw in the end?

cant see why not it's only to make a vacuum.

stick some fuel down the carb as the bowls will be empty it will take a while to start without it. (not alot just a bit. i usually use a squirt pot)

Cant be driven at the mo

Its got no wing, but this now gives me the motivation to get it sanded and painted, as I god damn hate sanding and can never be bothered

Now to do it a proper Yorkshire way, by nicking and bodging on a K&N off Petenmels clipper

nar yorkshire way is to use a sponge and some chicken wire. like i had on an old race engine.

quick trip to machine mart for a random orbital sander should speed the first sanding up a bit. then do it by hand.

How much will it be for a sander?

yep but needs must. i put the front two filters though the fan and turned them to small bits at about 70. i sent a team mate to get me a new filter from a local auto parts store and all they had was a transit van filter or something which was a big sponge thing. which then got chopped and made to fit a chicken wire mesh cone using tie wraps to hold them together. important bit was i got back out for the next race.
