your idle screw on the carb needs adjusting
try turning it half a turn at a time

^note that reads IDLE screw, NOT mixture screw. The idle screw only affects mixture/throttle at idle - no difference once the revs rise.

Mine has just done exact same, replaced the rubber o ring on idle screw, and adjusted screw. Started back up, n touch wood never had it again. Cheap fix/ worth trying.

I am having the exact same problem, i just cannot get it to idle. Did you manage to sort the issue and if so what was it? I have had the carb apart numerous amounts of times now, these o rings? would these be included in a carb rebuild kit? if this is the case then this is surely the only option? i have replaced the flange between the carb and the manifold thinking there was a possible air leak. and made up a new gasket for the carb body so the only thing left to do now would be to buy a kit and just rebuild the carb?! Any Ideas?!!?!?!?! PLEASE! ha

Oh go on, I'll say it as well. There's an idle issue.
Or, there's a vacuum issue - check the vacuum diaphragm on the back of the distributor for functionality.

Happened with mine too!
I got a rebuild kit for the original carb (solex pict7)
changed all the diaphrams, o rings etc, cleaned everything out with a decent carb cleaner, changed the carb/intake gasket, and its been sweet ever since!
I think mine was mainly due to crap being inside the carb ( previous owner let her sit for ages so there were fuel crystals )
