You want to put the mk1 Golf 4 speed on the mk4 Polo?

You need to add the seal extension and drive flange on the driverside. I've got the parts somewhere as I put a mk4 box on my mk1. The Polo might be cable change and the tapped holes may be missing on the casing.

nah id want to put the engine of the 1.4 polo in my mk1 as the gear box has broken on it id need to buy a new one but would rather not so could i use the mk1 gear box in my mk1 with the polo engine basically?

Sound anyway mate

easiest option would be to convert to the polo box as these run cable change gearboxes

the engine will mount straight in no probs just make sure you have a mig handy for the gearbox mounts and alteration to the cambelt end mount

if you fitted the mk4 engine to the mk1 box you would need flywheel clutch ect to match the gearbox

I believe the gearbox splines are common across the 085 range. I've got a mk4 Polo box on a mk3 Polo engine in my mk1 and prior to the mk4 box I was using the original mk1 box. All on the same clutch. The flywheel only has to match the starter motor as the later engines had a much thicker flywheel.

Yes, it'll go straight on with no major headaches.  Just bolt it up and away you go :)

lol nearly that simple :D  …

As its a late multi port injection wont he also have to transfer

ECU

ECU loom

fuel pump

fuel lines

clocks

engine loom

fuse box

Ignition barrel and keys

And exhaust system??

Or can you use the 1.3 mk1 carbs and igntion timing??

Anyone care to go alittle deeper into what needs to be done

The easy answer is it's not recommended. Better off with the ABD from the mk3 Golf as the mk1/2 Golf and mk1-3 Polo parts bolt straight on.

Just run it on the standard carb from the old engine - inlet manifold bolts straight up to the 1.4 head.  No need to do any of the above.

You'll want a distributer and ignition amp from a late Mk2 Polo.  Again, you can re-use the standard Mk1 exhaust and manifold, just bolts straight up.

The 1.4 lump is NOT a multipoint engine.
