MK1 GOLF RUNNIN CRAP AN SMOKING, MK4 POLO ENGINE SWAP ??

Hi all i have recently managed to get my 1983 mk1 golf driver fully legally on the road and have had some great times in it so far, however, its decided to spit its dummy out and has started to smoke quite badly from the engine bay an also started to run rough, while the mk1 was sat feeling sorry for itself before i had it on the road i bought a 1995 mk4 polo 6n off a mate to get me to and from work thinking the insurance would be cheaper but this wasnt the case so i resurrected the mk1, anyway back to the point, the polo has sat on my drive while the mk1 took me on my little adventures here there an everywhere until tonight when it threw its toys out the pram, im wondering how difficult an engine swap would be from the polo to the golf as it has a 5speed gearbox (it will when i sort 2nd and reverse out) plus it has less miles an is newer therefore more powerful, any information on this sort of swap would be greatly appreciated as two lovely vdubz are sat on the drive feeling sorry for themselves, thanks Jake !!

what engine is the polo?

Pretty much the modern 1.3 version of the golfs engine !

if it smoking from the engine bay this might be a very simple fix, new gasket or a hose something like that

as for it running rough this will be something carb related or timing

would be worth looking into it before you go swapping the engine over

might be easyer than a engine swap

There are more advantages than disadvantages to js doin the swap, I know the golf engine needs a good fettling but the polo engine is sweet an will only require slight tlc gearbox wise before bein slotted into the golf, I js need to know if there's any specific mounts I need to buy an how difficult the swap will be ??

Ive just done the polo gt 1.3 engine swap but Im not sure if later 1.3s are as easy, I know it certainly isnt as common.
Once I had all the parts I needed the 1.3 gt was easy but finding all the parts isnt, look on clubpolo for more info
