Mk1 Golf Driver 1.3 4 Speed.

What gearbox do i need to convert it to 5 speed and do i need any brackets for the box ?

i will be travelling to a few shows and just wanted a 5 speed

Its just that quite often the overall ratio between 4 and 5 speed box,s are very similar and there is very little to be gained. No idea on this specific swap though.

you need to make your own bracket, with half the 5 speed mount welded to the upper part of your odl one. usually a mk2/f polo 5 speed bracket is used for this modification, the mk2 gofl one may work but iirc it fits to the back of the box so no good?

Ive got a spread sheet which figures out the final speed of several different polo 5 speed boxes which was usefull for me, it bascially brought my engine rpm down by ~500rpm when going 70, pm me if your interested in it. It is a fairly easy swap which will only require welding together of the two mounts and I found that soem slight modification was needed for the golfs 4 speed gear stick housing to make accessing all the gears easier
