Who did your carb rebuild and do you have a guarantee, because it sounds like a carb issue.

check teh carb foot

teh rubber mount that goes between teh carb and teh inlet manifold

take the air box off and give teh carb a wobble, it should be nice and stiff rubber, spray dw40 around teh carb foot when idlling, an increase or decrease in revs = an air leak :D

ERROR: A link was posted here (img) but it appears to be a broken link.

Hi all thanks for your replys,
The Carb Rebuild was done by gower & Lee but i don't think it could be that, but you never know, but i'll let the guys at the garage know about the carb foot, but if anyones got any more suggestions that post them up.
Thanks
Wayne

could be part of the autochoke system - perhaps a vacuum pipe not connected if you have fitted an aftermarket bolt on filter.

1983 Polo CL - daily

1984 Golf G60 Syncro - sold

1989 Rallye Golf - sold

1992 Corrado G60 - crushed

1989 Polo C - chopped and crushed

1991 309 Style - crushed

Also, check the inlet manifold gasket for leaks.  :)

i thought the standard carb on a driver was a manual choke?

i would defo check the carb flange/foot there will also be a deposit of what looks like oil at the base of the carb if the flange is away.

Idling problem

Hi Wayne these carbs are can be very problematic the slow running jets are very easily blocked. when the garage stripped the card did they say there was dirt in the bottom. Quite common to see dirt in the inline fuel filter some times you need to turn it so the bottom is at the top, can be a rusty colour indicating fuel filler neck coroded or tank coroding. If its drawing air from manifold just spray some wd40 or the like round about manifold and engine note will change same for the carb mounting gasket but if I were a betting man I would think dirt in carb.
