mk1 & mk2 - same engine?
i know that gti engines are different from mk1 to mk2, but would a 1300 mk2 engine be able to drop straight into a mk1.

The early ones are pretty much idential although you may need Mk2 manifolding, the later ones with the hydraul heads ran electronic (no points) ignition so you need to take the coil, wiring loom and ignition amplifier from the Mk2. All bolts straight in on Mk1 engine mounts though!

yep ! bolt in swap, exactly what i've got in my driver….and if you get one of the higher compression lumps then its a little birt faster… 8)
