Mk1 1.3 - What engine is best for conversion?

Hopefully you can help me.

I have a Mk1 1.3 Driver, I have had the head skimmed and the gasket changed, yet the engine still overheats….

The last time I drove this was back in 2000 and it has been garaged ever since. I managed to start this car about 2 weeks ago.

I have decided to repleace the engine with something a little more powerful.

However, i will still keep the original engine as I may want to put it back in as it maybe worth a small fortune in the future….

What engine is best to put in my mk1? and what are the costs (approx)

If you want to stay with the small block engine bay then you can fit various Polo engines right upto a 1.6.

Yeh, I thought as much.

How much am I looking at to pay for one of these?

And, if I was to go for a big block engine, i presume that I will have to pay a little more as it may need new mounting blocks etc….

Also, where is the place place to find an engine?

Sorry, I am a novice to this….

i have a 1.1 shell that i am puttin a polo g40 engine in i am building it on a budget so far it has cost me around ?200 thats just for the block, piston ect.
the full conversion can be done for less than ?1000

the only thing with puttin a tall block in is that you have to cut out the drivers side engine mount and relocate it thurther back i was not willing to cut out the engine mount so i got a g40 engine and by the time i have finished it will be putting out more power than a 1800 gti.
