Mk1 1.1 Cannot get it to Start

Hi folks

just looking for some help with getting a newly restored 1.1 going again.

We have just put on a brand new Weber carb but she still will not start.

It still has it's original coil and HT leads so was going to replace those as the dizzy cap, rotor arm and points are all new as are the plugs - they are currently Champion RN7YC - are these the correct plugs for the car?

The spark looks very weak and seems to be dancing around the top of the plug and not just within the gap.

The fuel is coming through OK - took the pipe off at the pump and it is coming through the the plugs are also getting wet so i should be fine.

Also there are two electrical plugs on the back of the cylinder head at the top - the right hand one is the oil pressure switch i believe but there is also another sort of in eh middle - can anyone tell me what that is and where it should be wired up to?

Thanks again for any help

Where did you get the new weber kit from and how much did it cost - I need to invest in one.

Hi there

I bought it from the very helpful guys at Webcon (01932 787100) - it was £138 plus VAT plus delivery and they are really quick at getting them out - was next day even to Northern Ireland!

Cheers

Yes the Webcon kit includes everything you need and is a direct replacement so should be easy enough to sort.

Sounds like the coil isnt getting enough time to recharge… I would make the dwell period on the points shorter.

The plugs shouldnt come out wet! too much fuel!
